The Story Of Accord
The Accord success story began with an aspiring cello student Robert Schenk in the Hague. Tired of having to drag his heavy cello case to his lessons, he came up with an idea to make a much lighter cello case that is still protective enough for the instrument. Thinking of ways to realize his idea, he came across carbon fiber.
Quite soon, the idea was born to start producing cello cases that were half the weight of any other cases on the market, only to be followed by ideas for cases for other instruments such as guitars and wind instruments and also business class cases.
Thanks to the nature of carbon fiber they managed to develop a product of amazing quality. People find it hard to believe that a rather large cello case can weigh only 2,3 kg, which is how much Accord ultra light model weighs. On the other hand, protective qualities of carbon have proven crucial in protecting the instruments in some challenging situations they have found themselves in. Besides it's unbelievable physical characteristics, working with carbon inspires the realization of a unique aesthetic-artistic achievement. The streamlined and extremely elegant design of Accord cases is considered strikingly attractive. Each case is completely hand made and therefore unique.
Accord Corporation was started in 1994, and has developed quite an impressive list of clients since. Proud owners of Accord cases are Sting, Rostropovich, Yo-Yo Ma, Eddie Van Halen and Croatian president Stjepan Mesic who owns a business case for which he said, jokingly, even if his plane went down his papers would remain intact.
All Accord cases have a unique suspension system
engineered to float the instruments on a cushion of foam pads.
Wedge cushions can be easily
adjusted for different instruments and provide
very precise inside fitting and safety.
Ecological and chemically neutral
insulation does not interact with, or in any way harm
the finish of the instrument.
Prevents the accumulation of moisture.
Excellent insulating qualities.
Adjustable bottom pads fit the exact length
of any instrument.
Robert Schenk, founder and CEO of Accord Cases, says:
"As a cellist, I have had years of experience of
carrying my cello case around hanging from
the shoulder strap. I could not help but notice
the tremendous necessity for a case which
would not only shelter the instrument,
but would also be reduced to the instrument's
already generous shape and weight.
In my quest for the most perfect model possible,
I have carefully listened to the experiences and
the necessities of my numerous colleagues
who have endured similar suffering;
from the youngest and least strong, whose parents
are the ones who carry the "heaviest" burden of
the cellist vocation, to the oldest whose backs and
muscles endure the consequences of the same.
From those who in the company of their cases attract
attention in the city crowd in trams or subways, to those
who travel with their valuable instruments for thousands
of kilometers from one tour to another,
I have strived to integrate the best characteristics of the
traditional cases and the new dimension of
lightness, strength and beauty..."
